This is a very short, simple article about how to have a multi-select slicer in Power BI. Power BI slicer is in fact multi-select by default, however, there is a very small option that if you set it, makes it even easier to use, let’s talk about it. If you want to learn more about Power BI, read the Power BI book from Rookie to Rock Star.
Power BI Slicer
If you have list of items (or in drop-down mode), you will be able to select an items anytime
The slicer above gives me the ability to select a single item at a time.
Multi-select using Ctrl + Select
If you want to select multiple items, you can easily hold the Ctrl key on the keyboard, and select as many items you want.
A better Multi-Select experience
Multi-select using the Ctrl key is possible as you have seen in above, However, the experience for the users won’t be ideal. It would have been much better if you could multi-select without needing a Ctrl key. Fortunately there is a setting in slicer that allows you to do that function.
Go to the Format of the slicer visual, and under Selection Control, turn off the Multi-select with CTRL;
Now, your slicer will show a check box, and without holding the Ctrl key, you can easily multi-select.
As you see the setting is really simple and easy to apply. The users, however, would have a far better slicer to work with than the multi-select using Ctrl key.
